Busy Being Bored

Today was a calm, relaxing day. Humidity was in full force today, and we all know fat guys like me don't do well on hot days, so I spent a lot of time indoors, usually parked in front of a fan or A/C unit. Outdoorsy activities were out of the question, so I did not suck it up and deal with the heat as I previously stated I would. I think I need to lose some more weight before I feel more comfortable in hot weather...right now, I'm still sweating just by waiving my hand.

There's only so much you can do inside before you get bored...and that quickly happened to me today. Naturally, the hunger pains arrived with vigor, so I tried distracting myself, but I didn't do a very good job doing that, since the hunger wasn't going away. I didn't try very hard either...did a lot of TV and movie watching. I think the heat fogged up my brain or something. Regardless, I made it through the day without overeating, and I'm feeling good about tomorrow's weigh-in.

Speaking of boredom, today was the first time that I felt bored with my exercise routine. Since late June, I've been doing the same Wii workout routine: 30-45 minutes a day on either EA Sports Active or Wii Fit. I started using our elliptical machine a couple days ago, but that's only because I am finally below the weight limit for the machine. There's nothing else I do besides the Wii and the elliptical. I wasn't bored with these routines until today. I'm worried that this is gonna be worse as I continue to do the same routines. If I'm not comfortable with doing exercise outdoors, what options do I have? Join a gym? Try workout routines without the Wii? Suck it up and do outdoor exercises? Do nothing and see how it goes?

I'm gonna see how the next week goes before changing up my routine. Maybe it was a one-time twinge of boredom...

hey scott! well first of all, you're doing a great job, and don't worry about letting yourself sit around and watch tv once in a while. and i understand how you feel about getting bored with your workout routine. i haven't gone to the gym in forever, but when i was working out regularly it was hard to get excited about it when it become so monotonous. if you are looking to join a gym and need a workout buddy, let me know. i am in dire need of working out and getting back into a routine, i haven't been in ages and i still pay every month. i go to vanderbilt, it's really small and has all different kinds of people that go there, big and small, young and old. let me know!

Thanks Sam! I will let you know when I decide to join a gym. I would love to have a workout buddy. I will join one eventually...I just want to lose some more weight so I don't feel too embarrassed walking into a gym at my size. It's important for me to feel relatively confident in myself when I'm in a gym; otherwise I lose motivation. I used to go to Vanderbilt back in high school, and I really enjoyed it there, so I'll have to go back and check it out again.

Hey - for hot days, what about just walking around a mall or something? There's AC and you can get some activity points by even walking leisurely for an hour. We try to do that when it's too hot to function - yesterday we went to the Outlets, which worked out because it was hot outside but we got to keep ducking into stores for some AC action.

Jackie: that is an excellent idea. I'm generally too hot to function, so heading to a mall to do some walking is perfect for me. ;-)

Do you like to swim? Swimming would be great at keeping cool and getting some execise. I'm not talking about laps, but just getting in the water and having fun.

Batesy: swimming is a great idea. I definitely love to swim, so perhaps I should hit up the beach more often. People still swim with their shirts on, right?
